Allies and aims

Eleventh House

The eleventh house symbolizes friends, alliances, groups, and hopes that need other people, not a follower count.

Themes

The eleventh house is allies and aims: friends, patrons, groups, the good that arrives because you are not alone, and the hopes that require a 'we.' Traditional astrology calls it the place of the good spirit and gives Jupiter a joy here. Older politics also put benefactors and freed people's networks in this neighborhood of meaning. The house is social luck only in the sense that structures of friendship change what an individual can do.

House systems differ, so a planet near the eleventh in one drawing may be a tenth-house or twelfth-house matter in another. Do not build a theory of your people on an unchecked boundary. Look at the actual allies.

What this house is not

It is not a follower count, a popularity score, or a promise that a group will save you. It is not an order to be extroverted. A quiet person can have sturdy allegiances. It is also not the fifth house: acquaintances and audiences are not the same as the people you make joy with, though a life may be lucky enough to have overlap.

It does not mean your hopes are pure because they are shared. Groups do harm, fandoms sour, and patrons buy influence. Friendship is a craft with exclusions, dues, and repairs. The house will not pick your friends, and it will not explain a betrayal without the ordinary facts.

Reflective use

Use the eleventh house to name your real alliances, not your audience. Who would help you move a mattress. Whose project you are willing to stuff envelopes for.

Which group you remain in from habit. Then strengthen one bond with a specific contribution, or leave one bond that requires you to shrink a person, including yourself.

Hopes belong here when they need cooperators. Write the hope, then write the person who would have to agree. If you cannot imagine asking them, it is not yet an eleventh-house hope. It is a wish you are keeping unaired.

An alliance with a task

  1. 1Name three people or one group you are actually allied with, not merely visible to.
  2. 2Choose a concrete help you can offer one of them this month, and offer it.
  3. 3Name one hope that needs their agreement, and ask, or lay the hope down.
  4. 4If a group is costing someone their safety or honesty, step back in conduct, not only in a mood.

Questions

  • Who are my allies when there is nothing to watch?
  • Which hope have I never tested against another person's consent?
  • Where do I hide inside an audience because friendship is riskier?
