Moon

A lunar intention, written small

One aim, one phase, one ordinary action. The sky is a clock, not a notary.

Use this at a new or waxing moon if you like the poetry of increase, or whenever you can see the sky or accept that you cannot. The phase widget on the home page is approximate. Your calendar is allowed to be a rough friend.

Timing. Any evening. New and waxing moons are traditional for beginning. They are not required.

Materials

  • Paper and a pen.
  • A cup of potable water.
  • A light you can extinguish.
  • Optional: a white or undyed cloth.
  • A calendar or a note on your phone.

Steps

  1. 1Open the room. Write the aim in one sentence. If it names another adult’s behavior, tear it up and write an aim that is yours.
  2. 2Read it aloud. Cross out every adjective that is only drama.
  3. 3Set the paper under the cup. Light the lamp.
  4. 4Speak the words. Sit for two minutes.
  5. 5Write the ordinary action and the day you will do it on the same paper.
  6. 6Extinguish the light. Drink the water or water a plant. Fold the paper into the journal or into a book you will open again.
I name a thing I will actually touch. The moon may watch. The moon is not hired. I will do the next honest step before this paper goes yellow.

Close. If you still have the paper in a month and the action never happened, compost or recycle the paper and admit the aim was a wish, not a plan. That admission is the closing you skipped.

The practical action, which is not optional if you want the rite to be honest. Do the action: send the note, open the document, make the appointment, wash the dishes you were magically avoiding.
