The path

How this library speaks

Warm, precise, and unwilling to launder a guess into a tradition.

The voice you are reading is Julian Wilde’s house style: a little theatrical, because beauty is not a sin, and stubborn about labels, because queer people have been harmed by vague spiritual marketing.

Words we use carefully

  • Wiccan-inspired: we use tools and a festival shape associated with modern Wicca. We do not claim Gardnerian, Alexandrian, or any other initiatory warrant.
  • Witchcraft: a set of practices. Not a personality, and not automatically a religion.
  • Pagan: a wide modern umbrella. Not a single church.
  • Queer: our own word for a library that refuses to treat straight and cis as the default devotee. Individuals use the words they choose.
  • Smudging: not our word for burning kitchen herbs. That word belongs to specific Indigenous practices. We say “herb smoke” if we mean rosemary in a dish, and we rarely mean smoke at all.

Words we will not use as decoration

We do not call a practice ancient because it feels old. We do not call a myth “the” queer story, as if one statue could vouch for a population. We do not use “energy” as a way to smuggle a medical or scientific claim. If a sentence cannot survive the question “is this history, teaching, interpretation, or a rite I just wrote?”, it gets rewritten until it can.
