The moon
Lunar practice
An approximate phase for the curious, and rites that survive cloud cover.

The figure at the top of the home page is a mean synodic estimate. It can be off by hours. It is labeled as an approximation because moonlight is not a precision instrument you need to pretend to own.
Moonlight does not disinfect water. That sentence is also on the moon-water page, where it belongs.
New Moon
A new moon is the Moon nearly between Earth and Sun, mostly unlit from where we stand. Use it to write one beginning small enough to survive the week. No sign is promised.
PhaseWaxing Crescent
The waxing crescent is the first visible slice of returning light. The work is not a new beginning. It is tending the living task you already named.
PhaseFirst Quarter
At first quarter the Moon is about half lit in the evening sky. The work is a decision: choose, or choose a dated delay. Do not hover and call it mystery.
PhaseWaxing Gibbous
The waxing gibbous Moon is nearly full and still growing. The work is refinement: the second pass, the repair, the tightening. Do not add a new project to dodge the edit.
PhaseFull Moon
The full moon is the Moon opposite the Sun, its near side brightly lit. Look if you want to. A bowl of water is for seeing, not for drinking as if moonlight were a disinfectant.
PhaseWaning Gibbous
After full, the Moon is still very bright and now shrinking. The work is sharing and specific gratitude. Give something real away. Do not use thanks to cover a harm.
PhaseLast Quarter
Last quarter is the waning half-moon, often high in the morning. The work is a deliberate cut: end one thing you tend, so the rest can live. Not a purge, and not a punishment.
PhaseWaning Crescent
The waning crescent is the last thin moon before dark, often a morning sliver. The work is rest. Actual rest. Not a secret planning session with the lights dimmed.
EssayMoon Water
Moon water is a symbolic timing practice for water you would already drink. Moonlight does not disinfect water. It does not make water safe to drink.
EssayMoon Journaling
A lunation can hold a few honest lines: seed, look, rest. It should not become a productivity system that grades your soul every night.
EssayFull Moon Names
Wolf Moon, Snow Moon, and their cousins are largely a modern Farmer's Almanac and northeastern colonial list. They are not universal Indigenous names and not ancient European ones. Name the moon you actually live under.
EssayEveryday Moon
A moon practice that only works for homeowners with a backyard, a clear sky, and a quiet nine-to-five is a hobby for a narrow life. The moon is already doing its job without your patio.
EssayEclipses
An eclipse is the Sun, Earth, and Moon lining up. It is predictable astronomy. Any spiritual response is optional, quiet, and forbidden to pretend it knows the future.
