Major arcana
The World
One of the twenty-two major arcana.
A dancing figure moves inside an oval wreath, a wand in each hand, a violet sash flowing, the pose both finished and still in motion. In the four corners the same living creatures who watched the Wheel look on, quieter now. The dance does not ask permission from the frame.

Upright, or the open face
The World is a cycle brought to a real completion: the course finished, the voyage closed, the self you have been making arrived at a recognizable shape. You are allowed to pause inside the wreath and feel the satisfaction without immediately opening a new lack. This kind of ending connects you outward — to other people, to the next larger map — rather than sealing you in a trophy case; completion is not perfection. It is the honest ability to say that this particular journey is whole.
Reversed, or the pressured face
Reversed, the finish line keeps moving, or you refuse to close because closing would make you ordinary again. You may be one true step short and stalling, or clinging to a graduation feeling while the life after it goes unlived. Almost-done, repeated, is its own kind of exile from the wreath; the card is not withholding a cosmic diploma to punish you.
Questions
- What is actually finished, if I tell the truth about the last step?
- Where am I adding extra requirements so I never have to celebrate?
- Who belongs in the wreath with me when I mark this?
A grounded example
You upload the last file of a long portfolio and sit back in a chair that knows your slump too well. The urge is to open a new project before the relief can land and make you feel unprotected. Instead you tell your group the work is in, you eat something that is not at the desk, and you let the evening be a marker; next month can ask for more. Tonight this course is complete.
