Wands

Ten of Wands

Wands · 10

A figure bends under a bundle of ten long staves, face hidden by the load, walking toward a town that is visible and not yet reached. The road looks short. The posture is the lesson, and the town does not come forward to help.

Upright, or the open face

Ten of Wands is the weight of too many commitments, often picked up for good reasons, now blocking the view of the place you meant to reach. You can finish a last stretch, and you can also put a staff down before your back files a formal complaint. Responsibility is not the same thing as carrying every wand yourself so that no one else has to grow up; delegate, drop, or deliver. Do not confuse the bundle with your worth.

Reversed, or the pressured face

Reversed, the burden scatters in a collapse, or it stays on you because you will not trust another person with even one staff. Sometimes you are carrying duties no one assigned, an internal employment contract written in panic; too much load and a delayed release produce the same bent neck. You are not fated to be the one who does everything in order to be loved.

Questions

  • Which wand is actually mine to deliver to the town?
  • What am I carrying so that someone else, including a past version of me, never has to change?
  • What would the road look like if I could see over the bundle?

A grounded example

After the stage manager quits, you haul the props, the cables, and the snack bin because the show is tomorrow and disappointment feels like a moral emergency. Halfway across the lot your shoulders vote. You text two cast members and name exact loads instead of hinting that you are struggling in an attractive way; they come with a cart; the show happens. You learn a sentence: I do not have to be famous for being burdened.
